design thinking workshop
My role was to organise and facilitate a workshop on design thinking at an international event that brought together different cohorts of MSc/MA students to exchange knowledge and cultural capital on the challenges and opportunities of startup venture creation in the technology sector from different angles and disciplines.
The primary goal of a design thinking workshop is to equip participants with a user-centered approach to problem-solving that fosters creativity, collaboration, and innovation. By immersing participants in the design thinking process, the workshop aims to achieve several key objectives:
-
Empathy Building
-
Problem Definition
-
Ideation and Creativity
-
Rapid Prototyping
-
Collaboration and Teamwork
-
Adopt Design Thinking Mindset
Workshop structure
-
Agenda: Introduction to design thinking, design challenge
-
Design challenge activities: Empathy mapping, POV & HMW statements, brainstorming sessions (Crazy8's), rapid prototyping, discussion
-
Tools: Miro, Pen & Paper
-
Duration: 3 hours

Create digital solution tailored to the specific goals and challenges of the provided user persona, using design thinking as a methodology.
Design challenge
User Persona:

1. Empathize
TASK: EMPATHY MAPPING
By visualising user's attitudes and behaviours we can gain insights into the user's perspective and uncover valuable insights that will inform later design decision.

2. Define
TASK: STATEMENTS
In this stage, we use the insights gathered from the Empathy Mapping exercise into clear problem statements and opportunities for innovation.
POV Statement
HMW Statement
A Point of View (POV) statement defines a specific user, their needs, and key insights to frame the design challenge and guide ideation.
How Might We (HMW) statements are questions that open up possibilities for solution generation. They help turn insights and challenges into opportunities for innovation.

3. Ideate
TASK: SKETCHING
In this stage, the goal is to generate a wide range of creative ideas to solve the problems identified in the Define stage.
To achieve this, we engaged in the Crazy 8s exercise, a rapid ideation technique where each participant generates eight sketches (screens) in eight minutes using pen and paper.

4. Prototype
TASK: PROTOTYPING
Finally, we transformed our sketches into a prototype by converting our ideas into digital wireframes using Miro.
